The USA Basketball team won their 5th consecutive Gold Medal in Basketball in the Olympics and it was a display of pure class and flair. Led by the flamboyant Lebron James, USA defeated France in the finals to bag the gold medal.
In Tokyo Olympics 2020, it was France and USA only who had contested in the finals and it was the latter who bagged the top honours at the highest level.
Post winning the medal, the USA basketball team took to social media and in an apparent dig at track and field athlete Noah Lyles, tweeted “Are we the world champs now?”
To give context to this tweet, we need to take you back to August 2023 when Noah Lyles had sparked outrage after his press conference where he said that the National Basketball Association (NBA)/USA is not the entire world.
“You know the thing that hurts me the most is that I have to watch the NBA Finals and they have ‘world champion’ on they head,” Lyles said. “World champion of what? The United States? Don’t get me wrong, I love the US – at times – but that ain’t the world,” said Noah Lyles.
Noah Lyles won the Men’s 100m event
The 27-year-old athlete bagged the gold medal in the Men’s 100m Track and Field event and the bronze medal in the Men’s 200m Track and Field event. There were reports that he was battling high fever of 102 Degrees and Covid-19 during the 200m race.
Noah Lyles is considered one of the best athletes in the USA and has proven his authority and class in the Paris Olympics 2024.
USA basketball team, led by Lebron James, bagged the gold medal for the 5th consecutive time and defeated France 98-87. Even the women’s basketball team of USA bagged the gold medal after beating France in the finals 67-66 at Paris Olympics 2024.
