In what has been a remarkable turnaround, MI New York have lifted their 2nd Major League Cricket (MLC) title. After starting the tournament on a sedate note, Nicholas Pooran and co. staged a fabulous turnaround.
The MI family continues to extend their unparallelled dominance across T20 franchise leagues across the globe. MI New York had won the 2023 title after beating Seattle Orcas in the finals and have now bagged their 2nd title.
Notably, MI New York had narrowly sneaked into the playoffs and had finished in the 4th position. They had only won 3 out of 10 games in the league stage round and it felt like they would be eliminated by the top performers.
But as fate had it, MI New York embodied the never-say-die attitude and managed to win all their 3 playoff matches.
They had beaten San Francisco Unicorns in the Eliminator after a heroic cameo from Trent Boult, when they were 8 wickets down.
Eventually, Texas Super Kings were beaten by Nicholas Pooran’s side in Qualifier 2 by 7 wickets. Kieron Pollard had bagged the player of the match award. He scored a fiery knock of 47* runs in just 22 balls.
Who performed well for MINY in the Major League Cricket 2025 finals?
MI New York defeated Washington Freedom by a slender margin of 5 runs in the finals. Rushil Ugarkar bagged the player of the match award for bagging 2 wickets. He took the all-important wickets of opener Rachin Ravindra and skipper Glenn Maxwell.
Ravindra’s wicket was important as the Kiwi superstar was on song during his innings. He was batting on 70 runs before he was dismissed.
With the bat, Quinton De Kock, performed exceedingly well for MI New York. The former South African opener notched up a knock of 77 runs in 46 deliveries.
