The much-awaited World Test Championship (WTC) final of this edition will kick-start on 7th June 2023 at The Oval. It will be played between India and Australia and the stakes and the excitement levels are quite high.
Despite India having a few injury concerns, they are still pretty much a very formidable unit and they boast of some potent players. Some of the injured players include Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, and KL Rahul.
India will heavily bank on experienced players such as Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, Rohit Sharma, and Ajinkya Rahane.
In this article, we take a look at 3 reasons why India might win the upcoming WTC final versus Australia:
1. Plenty of experience in the Indian team
The Indian cricket team for the World Test Championship (WTC) finals is packed with some experienced players such as Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane. All these cricketers have been playing the longest format of the game for quite some time and they would be hungry to go out there and win an ICC title for India for the first time since 2013.
Kohli would arguably be India’s main batter and he himself has played 108 Test matches and has an average of 48.9.
2. India’s good record against Australia recently
In the last 4 Test series between India and Australia, India has been winning them. Be it in Australia or in home conditions, the Indian players have been dominating over their Australian counterparts.
This naturally would be a huge factor in determining who will bag the honors in the coveted WTC finals 2023. In fact, Australia had toured India in February for a 4-match Test series and India won it, 2-1.
3. Players are in form
If we take a look at the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, then we know that the Indian players are in form. Even though the two formats are largely different, form always stems from confidence and mindset.
Virat Kohli has scored 421 runs in IPL 2023 so far and is the 5th highest run-getter in this edition of the IPL. Ajinkya Rahane has re-discovered his mojo and is scoring runs, quickly off the blocks. In 9 games so far, Rahane has scored 245 runs and has an average of 40.83.
In the bowling department, Mohammad Shami has been in sublime touch. He has bagged 19 wickets in 11 games and is presently holding the Purple Cap. Mohammad Siraj has been a revelation when the ball is swinging in the powerplay overs and has the highest dot ball percentage in the ongoing IPL 2023.
