One of the most decorated Spanish coaches in India, Sergio Lobera has been roped in as the Head Coach of Odisha FC for the upcoming season. Former Indian Super League (ISL) winner Sergio Lobera will be taking charge of the Juggernauts after Josep Gombau was sacked as the Head Coach.
Notably, Josep Gombau had taken Odisha FC to the playoffs in ISL for the first time in the history of their existence. But shortly after the ISL season ended, the club parted ways with him.

“Sergio Lobera’s reputation precedes him, having already left an indelible mark on the Indian football landscape during his previous stints with FC Goa and Mumbai City FC in the ISL. Lobera’s arrival brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of success, making him an ideal candidate to lead Odisha FC to greater heights,” the statement added.

Having joined FC Goa in 2017, Sergio Lobera stamped his dominant authority as he took the Gaurs to the playoffs on 3 occasions continuously. In the last season of Lobera as coach in FC Goa, they had won the ISL League Shield Award.
FC Goa had also won the Super Cup 2019 award under the astute leadership of Sergio Lobera.
With Mumbai City FC, Sergio Lobera conjured magic again. He had won the ISL League Shield Award and the ISL Trophy in the 2020-21 season. Mumbai City FC so far are the only team to have achieved the double.
Odisha FC are coming on the back of the Super Cup 2023 victory in Kerala and they would be brimming with confidence and momentum.
