In a big breaking news, Pakistan’s all-format captain, Babar Azam, has stepped down as the captain of Pakistan. Babar Azam took to social media platform X, to announce his decision. The 29-year-old took this decision following a mediocre performance of his side in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
Pakistan finished in the 5th position in the points table after the completion of the group-stage and they managed to win only 4 games in 9 matches. Despite starting off on a positive note with 2 wins in 2 games, Pakistan suffered 4 consecutive losses in the middle and that jolted their entire campaign.
“Today I am stepping down as the captain of Pakistan in all formats. It’s a difficult decision but I feel it is the right time for this call,” he wrote on his social media account in X.
Babar Azam had been leading the Pakistan national cricket team since 2019. After Sarfaraz Ahmed was sacked as the captain across all the 3 formats, Azam took over the reigns from him.
