The Test series between India and Bangladesh is underway at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and this is only the 2nd time that Bangladesh have toured India to play in the longest format of the game.
Najmul Hossain Shanto and co. are having a dream run in Tests and had beaten Pakistan in their own backyard, 2-0. They are supremely confident ahead of this series against India and have started off on the right note.
At the time of writing this article, India are batting at 101 for 4 with Hasan Mahmud bagging the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant. They have started well and would be looking to prevent India from getting a big score in the 1st innings.
But as the 1st innings is progressing, tweets of “BoycottBangladeshCricket” is trending on social media and in this article, we will be mentioning as to why is his happening.
Bangladesh are going through a political turmoil
With former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Sheikh Hasina, resigning from her post on 5th August 2024 amidst heavy backlash from the protesting students, Professor Muhammad Yunus has been appointed as the Chief Advisor of the caretaker government of Bangladesh.
He is responsible for steering Bangladesh’s ship from the peril waters and has his task cut out. But his government has been known for having anti-India policies and several Hindus in Bangladesh are facing atrocities.
Following the ouster of Awami League, the ruling party of Bangladesh for a long time, Hindus in Bangladesh have been attacked and their houses have been burnt down and several Hindus have been killed by the violent mobs.
The anarchy had descended upon Bangladesh after Hasina fled to India from Bangladesh reportedly and has been a major cause of concern for Muhammad Yunus and his government.
Several right-wing organisations of India have called for a boycott of this ongoing Test series as they feel that Hindus have been mercilessly killed and targeted in Bangladesh, without any fault of their own.
Organisations like Janajagriti Samiti and Hindu Mahasabha have called for a boycott of this series and the hashtags are making the rounds on the internet.
