IND vs SL: BCCI name White-ball Squads, Shikhar Dhawan Dropped From ODI Squad

Date:

The outgoing selection committee of the apex body of Indian cricket, the Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) has named the white-ball squads for the home series against Sri Lanka. While Hardik Pandya will be leading the T20I set-up, Rohit Sharma returns as the captain in the ODI format.

One of the notable omissions has been veteran India opener, Shikhar Dhawan. Dhawan was having a paltry 2022 year and there was a drought in his runs. He had knocks of 7, 8, and 3 in the recently-concluded ODI series against Bangladesh and that led to his axing from the squad.

Rishabh Pant too has been excluded from both the ODI and the T20I squads of Team India. According to a source at Sports Tak, Pant has been rested from the series as he will be needing to undergo rehabilitation for his knee. Pant will be undergoing strength training for his knee.

Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson have been named to the T20I squad. The bowling department of Hardik Pandya’s side looks quite potent with the likes of Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar, Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Shivam Mavi finding a place.

The senior cricketers in the form of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and KL Rahul have been rested from the T20I squad. But they will be staging a comeback in the ODI format.

The T20I series between India and Sri Lanka is set to commence on 3rd January 2023. On the other hand, the ODI series will kick-start on 10th January 2023.
