The 15th edition of IPL will observe the defending champions, Chennai Super Kings clash with the last edition runner-ups, Kolkata Knight Riders as the opening match on Saturday, March 26 at 7:30 pm.
This year there will be 10 teams instead of 8 competing for the prestigious title. Adding to the level of competition and a wider section of players to watch out for this year IPL will be on another level. Tata is the new sponsor of the franchise-based T20 league and all matches will be played in the state of Maharashtra within two cities- Mumbai and Pune.
As two new franchises, Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans are joining the tournament. Hence, a total of 74 matches (including 4 playoff matches) are going to be played in IPL 2022. Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, and DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai are the two venues of IPL 2022. Whilst MCA Stadium in Pune is the fourth venue.
