Arshdeep Singh has been one of India’s best players in 2022 and has literally been a priceless gem that has been unearthed. After a couple of stand-out Indian Premier League (IPL) seasons, Arshdeep Singh made his India debut in July 2022 in the T20I series. In the T20I series against West Indies that followed the English tour, the 23-year-old young and talented cricketer bagged 7 wickets and was awarded with the player of the series award.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) has reposed a lot of faith in the young bowler. They retained Arshdeep Singh before the IPL 2022 mega-auctions even though he was an uncapped player. Subsequently, it paid rich dividends.

Now, the apex body of world cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the nominees for the ICC Emerging Player of the Year award 2022. This award was first brought to the fore in 2004 and India’s Irfan Pathan had bagged the award. Arshdeep Singh has been named as one of the nominees of this award.

In this article, we take a look at 3 reasons why Arshdeep Singh could win the ICC Emerging Player of the Year award 2022:

    1. The yorkers and pace variations of Arshdeep Singh are terrific

The U.S.P of Arshdeep Singh is his toe-crushing yorker and he nails it to perfection. Singh also has a wide repertoire of pace variations up his sleeve and deceives the opposition batters at frequent intervals. Arshdeep Singh is a left-arm seamer and a multi-dimensional bowler and this could be one of the major reasons as to why he is awarded the ICC Emerging Player of the Year award in 2022.

    2. He shouldered a lot of responsibility in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022

As India’s bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 because of a recurrent back injury, Arshdeep Singh donned the bowling spearhead’s role in the Indian cricket team. And boy, he loves responsibilities! Arshdeep Singh matured into a responsible bowler in Australia, picking up 6 wickets with a superb economy of 7.80. His spell against Pakistan in India’s first Super12 game is remembered fondly by a lot of people. Arshdeep had bagged 3 wickets and had dismissed Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam in the very first ball of the innings. The talented youngster was unfazed by the enormous pressure of an India-Pakistan game and delivered what his captain had expected him to.

    3. He has a stupendous average in T20Is

Having made his T20I debut in July 2022, Arshdeep Singh has played 21 T20I internationals since then. He enjoys a stupendous average of 18.1 and a decent enough economy of 8.17. This can also be one of the reasons why he is awarded with the ICC Emerging Player award 2022 by ICC.
