David Warner is all set to receive a grand farewell in his last Test game of his career at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) from 3rd January 2024. The southpaw will be representing Australia in the longest format of the game for the last time.
Australia presently have attained a 2-0 unassailable lead in this series and have been in red-hot form in international cricket. Notably, the Ozzies are also the World Test Championship (WTC) winners and ooze with class and composure in high-voltage events.
David Warner had started off the series with a fantastic knock of 164 in the 1st Test match versus Pakistan at the Optus Stadium in Perth. He was a vital cog in the wheels of Australia and played a crucial role in the hosts winning the game.
In the next Test match, which started from Boxing Day, Warner scored 38 and 6 runs respectively. Despite his failures with the bat, the Australian team management have decided against changing the squad and have kept the same squad for the final Test from 3rd January 2024.
“We’ve kept the squad unchanged from Melbourne to Sydney as we aim to sweep the Test series. We’re excited to honour David Warner in his last Test and acknowledge his amazing career on his home turf,” Bailey said in a statement quoted by cricket.com.au.
Australia have won 16 Tests on the bounce against Pakistan
In a bizarre statistic, Australia have won 16 matches on the trot against Pakistan in Australia. The Asian side hasn’t been able to get the better off the hosts in any format in Australia and this is an extremely shambolic thing to be a part of.
Shan Masood and co. would be looking to improve on their skills and perform better in the 3rd and the final Test. A win would act as a consolation prize for the Pakistanis and would save them some embarrassment.
Despite several calls for not having a grand farewell for David Warner in his final game, the Australian management have decided to bid farewell to their legendary player in a grand fashion at Sydney.
