BAN vs ENG: Bangladesh Announce T20I Squad For First Two Matches; Rony Talukdar Earns Call-Up

Date:

England is presently touring Bangladesh for 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is. This is a high-voltage series as Bangladesh is pretty competitive in its own backyard. The spin-friendly and sluggish conditions make it a batter’s nightmare and spinners love playing on the turning tracks of Bangladesh.

Bangladesh has named its T20I squad and there are some bold decisions taken. 30-year-old Bangladeshi all-rounder Soumya Sarkar has been left out of the side and Rony Talukdar has earned a call-up after a 8-year hiatus.

Mosaddek Hossain, Shoriful Islam, and Yasir Ali were also left out of the squad after being a part of Bangladesh’s squad in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 that took place in Australia.

On the other hand, Shamim Hossain returns to the squad after a 2-year absence and he is hoping to make his presence felt.

Rony Talukdar had a stellar BPL 2023

Talukdar comes into the side after being the second-highest run-getter in the recently-concluded Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). He mustered 425 runs in 13 matches and had a decent average of 35.42.

Talented pacer Ebadot Hossain too has not been able to find a place in the squad. Tanvir Islam was drafted into the squad after he was the joint-highest wicket-taker in the tournament, bagging 17 wickets in the tournament.

The T20I series begins from 9th March 2023

Bangladesh locks horns with England in the 3-match T20I series and it commences on 9th March 2023. The other 2 T20Is will be played on 12th March 2023 and 14th March 2023 respectively.

This is a perfect opportunity for England to get used to the sub-continent wickets, keeping in mind the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 that will be taking place in the spin-friendly conditions of India.

Notably, England is the defending champions of the ICC ODI World Cup, having edged past New Zealand in the super-over in the ICC ODI World Cup 2019 that took place in England itself.
