Big Bash League 2022: Martin Guptill Joins Melbourne Renegades As A Replacement Of Liam Livingstone

Martin Guptill

After being dropped from the central contract of New Zealand cricket, Martin Guptill is all set to ply his trade in the overseas T20 franchises leagues across the globe. He has joined Melbourne Renegades as a replacement of Liam Livingstone.

After Trent Boult and Colin de Grandhomme, Martin Guptill became the third Kiwi cricketer to pull out of the central contract of New Zealand cricket. Martin Guptill has recently been heavily ignored by the New Zealand cricket board for selection. Despite being in the squad in the ICC T20I World Cup 2022, the explosive opening batter was ignored for selection. Finn Allen was given a nod ahead of him. The 36-year-old cricketer was also dropped from the side for the white-ball series against India.

Liam Livingstone recently backed out of the Big Bash League 2022 due to international commitments. The Renegades have thus signed Guptill as a replacement of the Englishman. The Big Bash League is slated to start from 13th December, 2022.

The Melbourne Renegades play with Brisbane Heat on 15th December in their opening game of the Big Bash League 2022. Martin Guptill is expected to open the innings and provide the teams some solid starts so that they pose some imposing totals.

Martin Guptill is a veteran New Zealand cricketer and has played 198 ODIs and 122 T20Is for New Zealand. He also has a double century in the ICC ODI World Cup 2015 in the quarter-final against West Indies and is one batter that sends shivers down the spines of batters.

His score of 237* is the highest ever score in ODI World Cup history. Martin Guptill’s inclusion in the side is a big boost to Melbourne Renegades and they would be hoping to bag their second Big Bash title. The Melbourne-based side had won their first Big Bash title in 2018-19.
