The ICC Champions Trophy 2025 is set to kick off on February 19. There is speculation on the potential exclusion of some of India’s biggest stars from the tournament.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson, fast bowler Mohammed Shami, and opener Shubman Gill are among those facing uncertainty.

Each player has played an important role in Indian cricket but now faces challenges due to injuries, tough competition for spots, and changes in team strategy.

    Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson’s exclusion from the Champions Trophy squad appears likely despite his impressive ODI record, boasting 510 runs in just 16 matches at an average of 57.

The primary reason for his potential omission stems from the strong competition for opening spots.

With established players like Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal likely to fill these roles, Samson may struggle to find a place in the lineup.

Additionally, his lack of participation in recent domestic matches, such as the Vijay Hazare Trophy, raises further doubts about his selection.

    Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami’s situation is complicated by recent injury issues. After undergoing surgery for an ankle injury, he has shown promise in domestic competitions like the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

However, selectors may be hesitant to include an injury-prone player in such a high-stakes tournament.

Despite being a key performer in the 2023 World Cup—where he was the leading wicket-taker—his fitness concerns could lead to his exclusion from the Champions Trophy squad.

    Shubman Gill

Shubman Gill’s position is also under scrutiny as reports are suggesting he might not be included in the final squad.

Despite being a consistent performer alongside Rohit Sharma, the emergence of other players and strategic decisions by the selectors could impact his selection.

The ongoing discussions about team dynamics and potential openings might see Gill sidelined if the selectors opt for a different combination.
