One of India’s biggest challenges in this ICC ODI World Cup 2023 was the absence of talented opener, Shubman Gill. The 24-year-old cricketer was diagnosed with Dengue and he missed India’s first 2 games in this game.

Shubman Gill didn’t travel with the team to Delhi for the IND vs AFG clash and as per reports, was in a hospital in Chennai. Notably, India had played Australia in Chennai on 8th October 2023. Rohit Sharma and co. defeated the 5-time World Champions by 6 wickets.

Now, Shubman Gill has travelled to Ahmedabad for the high-octane game between India and Pakistan on 14th October 2023. In all probability, Gill might not be playing the game against arch-rivals, Pakistan.

This is because, Dengue takes a lot of time to recover. Several doctors are of the opinion that Dengue takes at least 2-3 weeks to recover and it depends on the loss of blood platelets during this disease.

But seeing Gill’s picture with a mask on, it brought in positive news to the Indian cricket team fans. As per reports, he is likely to start practicing with the team for the big game but might be rested for this one, so that he recovers well for the remainder of this long and gruelling tournament.

India’s batting coach Vikram Rathour, ahead of the game against Afghanistan, had given an update about Shubman Gill’s health. Upon being asked if he was hospitalised, Rathour gave a positive answer.

“He’s recovering well. Yes, he was hospitalised, but it was more though as a precaution. He’s back in the hotel in Chennai and is recovering well. So, he’s being monitored by the medical team. We are hoping that he will recover soon and would be looking good,” said Vikram Rathour.

Ishan Kishan has filled in for Shubman Gill for the 2 games which India has played. While he was dismissed for a golden duck in the game versus Australia by Mitchell Starc, Kishan scored 47 runs against Afghanistan.

India have registered 2 wins in 2 games

Rohit Sharma and co. couldn’t have asked for a better start to their campaign. They have secured 2 wins in 2 games and are pretty confident ahead of the big-ticket clash against Pakistan on 14th October 2023.

It will be played at the historic and iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and is slated to begin from 2:00 PM (IST).
