Montreal Tigers defeated Surrey Jaguars by 5 wickets in the finals of the Global T20 Canada 2023 and won the tournament. The match took place at the CAA Centre in Ontario and they won the elusive title.
The Global T20 Canada 2023 tournament was a major success. The entire cricketing fraternity watched in awe as the tournament unfolded in Canada and it played a huge role in uplifting the cricketing standards of Canada.
Montreal Tigers had initially won the Eliminator by defeating Brampton Wolves. Post that they defeated Vancouver Knights in Qualifier 2 and booked their place in the finals.
They sparkled with rhythm and rhyme throughout the tournament and it showed in the results. Chris Lynn on Montreal Tigers finished as the highest run-getter after he amassed 234 runs in 9 matches.
Sherfane Rutherford too performed well as he scored 220 runs in 8 innings. He had an exceptional average of 44.00 and his highest score in the Global T20 Canada 2023 was 84.
Rutherford had finished as the second-highest run-getter in the tournament and was one of the key reasons why Montreal Tigers won the tournament with ease.
Montreal Tigers received a prize money of CAD 300,00. Sherfane Rutherford had bagged the player of the match award in the finals for scoring 38* runs. Notably, he also won the player of the series award for his exceptional performances in the entire Global T20 Canada 2023.
In the finals, the bowlers of Montreal Tigers stepped up and restricted the opposition for a meagre total of 130 runs. In response, Chris Lynn and co. chased down the total as Rutherford kept his calm under pressure.
Lynn played well too as he scored 31 runs in 35 balls and his innings was packed with 3 fours and 1 six.
