India has officially announced its 15-member squad for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to take place in the UAE from October 3 to 20.
The Indian women’s squad will be led by the experienced Harmanpreet Kaur, with star batter Smriti Mandhana serving as vice-captain. This tournament marks a significant opportunity for the Indian team as they aim to secure their first T20 World Cup title.
The tournament has been relocated from Bangladesh to the UAE due to civil unrest in Bangladesh. India is in Group A alongside formidable teams such as Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. The first match for India will be against New Zealand on October 4.
The team is expected to leverage its strong batting lineup and spin-heavy bowling attack, with Smriti Mandhana, Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh identified as key players for big hits during the middle overs.
The inclusion of players like Asha Sobhana and Shreyanka Patil adds depth to the squad, particularly in the spin department, which is crucial for the conditions expected in the UAE.
