    Ravichandran Ashwin vs England

Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the top spinners in the world presently. He can spin a web and simply bamboozle the opposition batters. With his razor-sharp cricketing mind, he can make set batters look under-cooked.

Time and again, Ashwin has been the backbone of the Indian cricket team. He has played exceptionally well and has been one of the top-ranked bowlers in the world. In India, Ravichandran Ashwin is absolutely unstoppable.

India lock horns with England in the 5-match Test series, which starts from 25th January 2024. The onus will once again be on the 37-year-old bowling all-rounder to take India home.

In this article, we take a look at 3 reasons why Ravichandran Ashwin can have a good series against England:

    1. Good record against England in Tests

Ravichandran Ashwin loves playing against England and records speak for themselves. He has taken 88 wickets in 19 Tests against England and is the second-highest wicket-taker in India vs England Tests.

Only Bhagwath Chandrashekhar has more Test wickets than him from India against England. The former spinner of India had taken 95 wickets in 23 matches. Ashwin thus needs 8 wickets to go past the record of the former legendary spinner of India.

This might be one of the top reasons as to why Ashwin can have a good series against England.

    2. Ravichandran Ashwin is the number 1 ICC Test bowler

As per the rankings of the ICC Test Bowlers, Ashwin is right at the top. He presently has 863 points under his belt and is in good form. He will be able to spin a web and trap the opposition batters.

Ashwin recently also won the Polly Umrigar Award for the year 2020-21. This award is given to the Best International Cricketer in the Men’s Category by the apex body of Indian cricket, the Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI).

    3. India might make spin-friendly pitches

India always have had made spin-friendly tracks. To be precise, there are dust bowls which are made and the ball starts spinning from Day 1. This is essentially, a spinner’s dream and Ravichandran Ashwin would grab on to this opportunity and create several records in this 5-match Test series.

Ashwin is just 10 wickets away from hitting the magical mark of 500 wickets in Tests. He has taken 495 wickets in 95 Tests and it seems like he will be crossing this mark in this series itself.
