IND vs NZ ICC knockouts head-to-head record

As India and New Zealand prepare to face off in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final on March 9, 2025, at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, their head-to-head record in ICC knockout matches is a significant talking point.

Historically, New Zealand has a clear dominance in high-pressure match-ups and is therefore a challenging team for India.

    Head-to-Head Record in ICC Knockouts

India and New Zealand have met each other in ICC knockout competition on four occasions with New Zealand leading 3-1.

Their match-ups are in the 2000 ICC KnockOut Trophy final, the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup semifinal, the 2021 ICC World Test Championship final, and the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup semifinal.

    • 2000 ICC KnockOut Trophy Final: New Zealand won by four wickets, securing their first ICC title. Chris Cairns’ century was instrumental in their victory.
    • 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup Semi-Final: New Zealand defeated India by 18 runs, eliminating them from the tournament.
    • 2021 ICC World Test Championship Final: New Zealand won by eight wickets, claiming the inaugural WTC title.
    • 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Semi-Final: India secured their only win in recent knockout matches against New Zealand, winning by a significant margin.

    Overall ICC Events Record

In all ICC events, India and New Zealand have a mixed record. In the ICC World Cup, they have played 10 matches, with New Zealand winning five and India four.

In the ICC Champions Trophy, they have met only once, in the 2000 final, which New Zealand won. In the ICC T20 World Cup, New Zealand has a perfect record against India, winning all three encounters.

    Recent Form and Performance

Both teams have shown impressive form in the Champions Trophy 2025. India became the first team to reach three consecutive Champions Trophy finals after defeating Australia in the semi-final.

New Zealand, meanwhile, set a new tournament record by scoring 362/6 against South Africa in their semi-final, thanks to centuries from Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson.
