    India Bowled Out

The Indian cricket team was bowled out for just 46 runs, marking their lowest-ever Test score at home during the first Test against New Zealand at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on October 17, 2024.

This dismal performance not only highlights the team’s struggles but also sets a new record for their lowest total on home soil, surpassing the previous low of 75 runs against the West Indies in 1987.

After a rain-affected first day that saw no play, India opted to bat first after winning the toss on Day 2. However, they quickly found themselves in dire straits.

The Indian batting lineup crumbled under pressure, with captain Rohit Sharma falling early for just 2 runs, clean-bowled by Tim Southee.

The situation worsened as star batsman Virat Kohli and several others were dismissed for ducks, contributing to a staggering collapse from 31 for 3 to 46 all out.

New Zealand’s bowlers dominated, with Matt Henry claiming five wickets for just 15 runs, while William O’Rourke added four wickets for 22 runs, effectively dismantling the Indian batting order in just 31.2 overs.

This match marks India’s third-lowest Test score overall, following their infamous total of 36 runs against Australia in Adelaide during the 2020 Border-Gavaskar Trophy and another low of 42 runs in England back in 1974.

The current performance raises concerns about the team’s form as they prepare for upcoming challenges, including the looming Border-Gavaskar Trophy series.

Only two Indian batsmen managed to reach double figures, Rishabh Pant, who top-scored with 20 runs, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who contributed 13 runs.

The rest of the batting lineup faltered dramatically, with five players—including Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan—failing to score.

This historic low has sparked discussions among fans about the future of the Indian batting lineup and its ability to perform under pressure.

As they head into further matches, including potential series against stronger opponents, there will be significant scrutiny on player selections and strategies moving forward.
