On Monday, June 5, it appeared that the Twitter account of Indian cricketer Washington Sundar had been hacked. A tweet was posted containing links that directed users to Cryptocurrencies.
The tweets on Monday from Washington Sundar’s Twitter clearly indicated that his account had been hacked. However, there is no official clarification from Sundar regarding the same.
The hacker behind the breach managed to post a total of three tweets, all of which had a singular focus: the promotion of cryptocurrencies. These tweets urged unsuspecting users to participate in an AIRDROP, claiming that they could acquire these digital coins by following the provided links.
As soon as Sundar’s Twitter account started posting about cryptocurrencies, fans quickly realized that the account had been hacked. In response to a fan’s question about whether the account had been hacked, a prompt reply from the account stated, ‘No’.

Notable Cases of Social Media Account Hacking in Indian Cricket
Instances of social media account hacking have unfortunately become increasingly common. The Twitter account of the renowned Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), has fallen victim to hacking not once, but twice. The first incident occurred in September 2021, followed by another breach in January 2023.
During the most recent hacking incident, the hacker took control of RCB’s Twitter account and proceeded to post tweets related to NFTs. The hacker went as far as changing the profile photo and name to ‘Bored Ape Yacht Club’, a reference to a popular NFT collection. These NFT-related tweets garnered attention from other users interested in the space, resulting in their subsequent reposting.
In a separate incident in 2022, the Twitter account of Indian all-rounder Krunal Pandya was compromised by a Bitcoin scammer. The hacker utilised the hacked account to advertise the sale of the account itself in exchange for bitcoins. The tweet served as a clear indication that unauthorized individuals were actively seeking to exploit social media platforms for their own purposes.
Washington Sundar’s Season of Struggles
Washington Sundar’s recent season has been one filled with disappointment. Unfortunately, his time in the IPL 2023 was cut short after participating in just seven matches due to a hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined ever since.
Throughout the IPL 2023 matches he played, Sundar’s performance fell short of expectations. With a mere 3 wickets and a meager total of 60 runs, his individual contributions were not sufficient to uplift his team, Sunrisers Hyderabad, who finished at the bottom of the IPL table with only 4 wins out of 14 matches.
