IPL 2023: 3 Reasons Why Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) Can Qualify For The Playoffs

Date:

Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have historically been one of the most consistent sides in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Under the astute captaincy of their former skipper David Warner, SRH has qualified to the playoffs, 6 times.

In 2016, SRH beat Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) to win the IPL for the first time. But ever since they sacked David Warner as the captain, the team has witnessed a downward spiral.

After finishing IPL 2021 in the 8th position, SRH continued their poor form and once again finished in the 8th position in IPL 2022. However, with the addition of a few good players for their IPL 2023 campaign, SRH have bolstered their team and their playoff chances.

In this article, we take a look at 3 reasons why Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) can qualify for the playoffs in IPL 2023:

1. Good captaincy options

SRH have plenty of good captaincy options in their squad for IPL 2023. After having released Kane Williamson ahead of the IPL 2023 mini-IPL auction, SRH secured the services of former Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Mayank Agarwal for a sum of Rs. 8.25 crores.

The Hyderabad-based outfit also has Aiden Markram who has a solid cricketing brain and understanding of the game. The 28-year-old batter has previously captained the South Africa U-19 team to the ICC U-19 World Cup title in 2014. He has also captained the national team in a few games.

2. Stability in middle-order

With the addition of Harry Brook, SRH’s middle-order received another major major boost. SRH bought the English all-rounder for a whopping amount of Rs. 13.25 crores and is all set to play a pivotal role in SRH’s chances for the playoffs. They also have the likes of Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram and Washington Sundar in their side and have a great opportunity of staking a case for the IPL 2023 trophy.

3. Star-studded coaching panel

SRH have named a star-studded coaching panel for the upcoming IPL 2023. While former West Indian legendary batter replaced Tom Moody as the Head Coach, former South African fast bowler Dale Steyn is the fast-bowling coach.

They also have former Sri Lankan wily spinner and the highest wicket-taker in the Test format (800 wickets) Muttiah Muralitharan as their strategic coach and spin-bowling coach.
