Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) played their first ever game at Lucknow in this game versus the Delhi Capitals (DC). They won the game comprehensively and inflicted a heavy 50 run defeat on Delhi Capitals (DC).
The defeat certainly would have jolted DC’s confidence levels and they need to go back to their drawing board and fix a few issues in their team.
Mark Wood was the cynosure of all eyes as he took a 5-fer and dominated the proceedings for the Lucknow franchise. His inclusion is a big plus for the LSG franchise.
In this article, we take a look at 3 talking points of yesterday’s match between Lucknow Super Giants and Delhi Capitals:
1. Mark Wood is going to be a big asset for Lucknow
The absence of Mark Wood in the Lucknow team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 was a big blow to the side. They failed to win the title and this time around as he is there, they would be looking to play their best version of cricket.
Wood breathed fire with the ball and bagged 5 wickets in the game against Delhi. He also conceded 17 dot balls in his spell.
2. West Indian players continue their swagger in IPL
West Indian players of Lucknow Super Giants, Kyle Mayers and Nicholas Pooran had an exceptional game for Lucknow in the opening match.
While Mayers fired on all cylinders and scored a valuable quick-fire knock of 73 runs in just 38 balls, Nicholas Pooran gave the perfect finish to LSG’s innings.
Pooran scored 36 runs in just 21 balls and played the role of a finisher to perfection.
3. Delhi’s batting made them lose the game
Delhi Capitals’ batting was a big concern in the entire match. They did not play like a synchronized unit and kept losing wickets from one end.
Skipper David Warner was the lone warrior and he scored 56 runs in 48 runs. Warner however looked far from his fluent best.
The skipper of Delhi didn’t receive support from the other end as LSG bowlers ran through the entire bowling line-up of Delhi Capitals.
