The Indian Premier League (IPL) is often credited for changing the landscape of Indian cricket. The cash-rich and lucrative IPL tournament has elevated India to be a global superpower in cricket and the apex body of Indian cricket, the Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) has benefitted largely from IPL.

IPL 2023 is on the cards as the trading window is on and the IPL auction is all set to take place in December according to a few reports. Teams are looking to rejig their sides to some extent and cover all the loopholes that were present last season.

1. MS Dhoni

The man, the myth, the legend! The talismanic wicket-keeper and skipper of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) franchise, MS Dhoni is an emotion. He has been associated with the IPL since 2008 and it might be time that he draws curtains on his illustrious IPL career. He had previously said that he would play his last season at Chepauk in front of the crowd that has poured in extreme levels of love and affection for the Ranchi boy. Since IPL 2023 will be played in the home and away format, this might as well be the 41-year-old cricketer’s last IPL season.

2. Kieron Pollard

Another IPL legend, former West Indies captain and skipperm Kieron Pollard has played 189 matches for Mumbai Indians (MI) and is a living legend for the 5-time champions of IPL. He has seen the side through tough times and has also been a part of the side during glorious times. However, he is in the fag end of his career and he might play his last season this year. In 189 IPL matches, Pollard has scored 3412 runs and has scalped 69 wickets.

3. Dwayne Bravo

Another legend from the Caribbean islands, Dwayne Bravo too retired from international cricket after the ICC T20I World Cup 2021. The all-rounder has played for IPL franchises such as MI, CSK and Gujarat Lions (GL) and has been an indispensable part of any team he plays in. He presently plies his trade for MS Dhoni’s CSK and has scored 1561 runs in IPL.

4. Dinesh Karthik

The game-changer of the Indian cricket team, Dinesh Karthik defied all odds when he staged a comeback into the Indian cricket team this year. He is lethal with the bat and can produce some stunning performances with the blazing blade. He plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL and was superb in IPL 2022. He mustered 330 runs in IPL 2022 and a sensational strike/rate of 183.33.

5. Shikhar Dhawan

The experienced campaigner Shikhar Dhawan is entering into the twilight of his cricketing career. He plays only the ODI format for Team India and might also call it quits from IPL after IPL 2023. He is the second-highest run-scorer in the marquee IPL and has plundered 6086 runs in IPL so far. One of the most consistent batters in the tournament, Dhawan is often labelled as the backbone of any IPL franchise he plays for.
