Aiden Markram, a South African batter, has indicated that he would like to lead SunRisers Hyderabad in the upcoming Indian Premier League season.
The middle-order batsman led his team Sunrisers Eastern Cape to victory in the inaugural SA20 tournament by smashing a roaring century against JoBurg Super Kings in the semifinals. Markram stated that he is ok with serving as captain and feels at ease in a leadership position during a press conference on the sidelines of the competition.
Aiden Markram, a 28-year-old South African batsman, has stated his position to lead Sunrisers Hyderabad as captain in the 2023 IPL after leading his team to SA20 2023 final. Along with Mayank Agarwal and seasoned Indian bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Markram is one of the front-runners for the franchise’s leadership position.
Becoming the captain is not the be all!
Markram replied in the affirmative when asked if he would be interested to captaining the team in the prestigious Indian Premier League.
“What’s going to happen, to be honest… either way we back the management’s decision about who they want to be in charge. Becoming the captain is not the be all and end all. You can be in some form of leadership role too. But I am okay with captaincy, it’s something that I enjoy doing,” Markram said ahead of the SA20 final.
Been captaining for a while
Before being released, Mayank served a dismal tenure as captain of the Punjab Kings. Markram, on the other hand, has effectively led the South African team for the IPL franchise, demonstrating his leadership abilities.
Regarding Markram, the South African batsman made 381 runs in 14 games last season at a strike rate of 139.5. The only thing that can work against him is his lack of IPL coaching expertise.
“I have been captaining for a while before this tournament started. It’s been a nice experience, a fresh start, I would say,” Markram added.
Markram has led the Sunrisers Eastern Cape to final
While Wayne Parnell of the Pretoria Capitals is approaching the championship game with uncertainty due to a groyne complaint, Markram is entering the match on the strength of a stunning century. After a challenging era, South African cricket has received a breath of new air thanks to the inaugural SA20 league, according to both leaders, Markram and Parnell.
