IPL 2023: Big Blow For Dhoni-Led CSK, Kyle Jamieson Likely To Miss Entire Season

Date:

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, Chennai Super Kings will be without a useful all-rounder as Kyle Jamieson. The New Zealander is unlikely to be available for the entire season for the four-time winners. Jamieson will miss at least 4 months of action after having surgery for his back injury.

Jamieson last played for New Zealand in England in a Test series in June 2022. After being sidelined for about 7 months due to a back injury, Kyle Jamieson was hoping to play in the current 2-Test series between England and New Zealand in New Zealand. However, he had to miss the first Test due to the injury.

After being selected for the series’ team, Jamieson was unable to play in the opening Test. The all-rounder will require surgery to address his severe back pain, according to head coach Gary Stead, who also said that the time away from the game will allow him to properly prepare for his comeback.

The Kiwi all-rounder was bought by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for Rs 1 crore during the IPL 2023 mini-auction, but his participation in the upcoming IPL season is in doubt due to a back fracture.

Jamieson chose not to participate in the IPL 2022 mega auction, and Royal Challengers Bangalore paid Rs 15 crores for him, making him the second most expensive player in the 2021 auction. He took 9 wickets in 9 IPL 2021 matches.

A Challenging And Difficult Time For Kyle Jamieson

With a diagnosis of his back issue, Kyle Jamieson will travel back to Christchurch for medical tests. He is currently planning the treatment with the help of a surgeon. Gary Stead, the head coach of New Zealand, stated that Jamieson was going through a difficult time and that the squad had lost a big game.

“He’s seen a surgeon and he’s getting back surgery later in the week, so it’s been a challenging and difficult time for Kyle and a big loss for us. We hope we will know more in three to four months and just what the prognosis is,” Gary Stead said.

In the first Test match between New Zealand and England at Mount Maunganui, New Zealand was handily beaten by 267 runs. With Trent Boult and Jamieson out, the home team’s bowling attack appeared to be lacking. Boult’s decision to opt out of his core contract with New Zealand in order to play more franchise cricket prevented the team management from considering him for selection.
