The lucrative Indian Premier League (IPL) season of 2023 will begin during the fourth week of March. There will be a mini-auction right before the season starts; the location has not yet been chosen, but as per the reports of Cricbuzz, December 16 is most likely the day that has been picked.
Each team’s budget for the IPL 2023 auction will be INR 95 crore, up from INR 90 crore before. The amount in the team’s coffers will rise if a player departs or a team swaps a player. The teams’ budget has grown by INR 5 crore from the previous year, therefore it will be interesting to see how they use this mini-IPL season.
IPL home and away format
From the 2018 season, the Indian Premier League (IPL) will resume its traditional home-and-away structure. Since COVID, the IPL has only been staged at a select few locations, with the games taking place at three locations in the United Arab Emirates: Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi.
IPL Venues during COVID
There were four locations used for the IPL 2021 matches: Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Chennai. The cash-rich league will resume its original format, in which each side will play one home game and one away game, with the Covid cases now under control.
Istanbul, Turkey emerged as BCCI’s top choice
BCCI is considering holding this year’s IPL auction outside of India, most likely in Turkey. The regular venue Bengaluru is also being taken into consideration when a final decision is expected to be made in the first week of November. Istanbul is still a suitable option for the IPL.
