Ireland’s cricket team has announced a formidable 15-member squad in preparation for the upcoming T20I series against India, starting on August 18.
The highly anticipated tour will see the Indian cricket team travelling to Ireland in August 2023 for a three-match T20I series. The IRE vs IND T20I action will kick off on August 18 at the esteemed Malahide Cricket Club in Dublin, with the remaining matches to follow, ending on August 23.
In an exciting development, Jasprit Bumrah makes a triumphant return to competitive cricket after recovering from a back fracture that sidelined him since September 2022.
This tour will also mark a significant milestone for Bumrah as he takes on the leadership role, captaining the Indian team for the first time in a limited-overs series. Assisting him in the deputy role will be the talented Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Additionally, Karnataka seamer Prasidh Krishna makes his comeback to the squad, having recovered from a lumbar stress fracture that kept him out of action since August 2022.
Looking back at past encounters, India has shown dominance against Ireland, winning all five T20 matches played between the two sides. Nevertheless, Ireland, led by the capable Paul Stirling, is determined to challenge the visitors and reverse their fortunes in this upcoming series.
Paul Stirling’s appointment as captain comes after Andrew Balbirnie stepped down from the captain role after Ireland’s disappointing performance in the ODI World Cup 2023 Qualifiers.
Despite the setback, the Irish side showcased resilience and secured their spot in the T20 World Cup set to take place in West Indies and the USA next year.
