The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) plans to build a statue in honour of the legendary six that MS Dhoni hit against Sri Lanka in the 2011 World Cup final game to give India the win.

After the memorial is finished, the legend himself is most likely to inaugurate it. The precise spot where MS Dhoni’s legendary winning six had fallen in the spectators will be the site of the memorial.

India just celebrated the 12-year anniversary of their World Cup victory on April 2nd. At Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, the Men in Blue defeated Sri Lanka by six wickets in the tournament’s championship match.

Dhoni, who scored 91* off 79 to win Player of the Final, launched Lankan medium-pacer Nuwan Kulasekara for a maximum to end the match.

Following a Monday Apex Council meeting in Mumbai, MCA President Amol Kale confirmed, “Today, the MCA Apex Council has decided to make a small victory memorial in Wankhede Stadium stands to commemorate India’s 2011 World Cup win.

The memorial will be built at the location where MS Dhoni’s historic winning six had landed in the stands.”

Memorial likely to be inaugurated on April 8

He added that MCA would contact MS Dhoni, India’s then-skipper in that year’s victory, to ask for his help in unveiling the memorial.

The MCA is hoping that Dhoni will dedicate the memorial while he is in Mumbai for his Chennai Super Kings (CSK) against Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 8.

The time has not yet been decided because MS Dhoni’s availability and consent are very necessary.

“MCA will also felicitate MS Dhoni when he inaugurates the World Cup Victory Memorial in Wankhede Stadium,” concluded Kale.

India defeated Sri Lanka in 2011 WC

On April 12, 2011, the Indian cricket team won its second World Cup, 28 years after their first victory in 1983, to the nation’s great honour. India defeated Sri Lanka in the title bout in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium by six wickets.

With 83 runs in their partnership, Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli helped India’s hopes of winning the match as they chased down the 275-run mark.

After that, Team India’s captains MS Dhoni and Yujraj Singh put on an unbroken 54-run stand for the fifth wicket, leading India to their first World Cup victory in 28 years.

India will now host the ODI World Cup 2023 for the first time, 12 years after winning the tournament in 2011. On April 2, the same day that the Indian team captained by MS Dhoni won the 2011 World Cup.

    Dhoni’s massive sixes in IPL

In CSK’s last match of IPL 2023, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Moeen Ali were the standout performers as Chennai Super Kings defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 12 runs.

Gaikwad put up a great opening stand with Devon Conway, scoring 57 runs total. Ambati Rayudu, Moeen, and Shivam Dube all had strong starts, and MS Dhoni concluded the innings in spectacular fashion with two huge sixes.
