In a bizarre incident, Angelo Matthews becomes the first international cricketer to be “Timed Out”. He was sent back to the pavilion after Bangladesh skipper Shakib Al Hasan appealed to the umpires for a time out.
The match is taking place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi and this is a historic first as Angelo Matthews went back to the pavilion without facing a single delivery. Angelo Matthews had come in to bat with a wrong helmet and he wasn’t ready to face Shakib.
Notably, Shakib Al Hasan had dismissed Sri Lankan batter Sadeera Samarawickrama in the previous delivery.
“After the fall of a wicket or the retirement of a batter, the incoming batter must, unless Time has been called, be ready to receive the ball, or for the other batter to be ready to receive the next ball within 3 minutes of the dismissal or retirement. If this requirement is not met, the incoming batter will be out, Timed out,” states the MCC rulebook.
At the time of writing this article, Sri Lanka were 169-5 at the end of 31 overs in the 1st innings.
