As Pakistan’s visitors reached 433-9 before lunch on the second day of the last Test in Karachi on Tuesday, Matt Henry and Ajaz Patel of New Zealand frustrated them with an unbroken 88 for the last wicket. With Henry on 56, his third half-century, and Patel scoring a Test-best 31, New Zealand, which had resumed on 309-6, scored 124 runs in an extended session by lunch.
After lunch on day two, a stunning closing stand between Matt Henry (68*) and Ajaz Patel (35) raised the total to 449 all-out. The two players had Pakistan’s highest visiting pair’s 10th-wicket partnership. The first Test, which was also played at Karachi, concluded in a draw, tying the two-game series.
After turning 30 the previous night, Blundell scored a boundary and a single off Abrar Ahmed to reach fifty. Before Ahmed bowled him, he scored 51 runs while hitting six boundaries.
