Australian Test and ODI captain Pat Cummins has decided to go on a 8-week break to recharge himself before the high-voltage and highly-anticipated Border Gavaskar Trophy, scheduled to be played in November and December.

Pat Cummins has played continuous cricket since 18 months and needs a break to get back into the mix before the big series against India. Notably, Australia have failed to win the last 3 editions of the Border Gavaskar Trophy and would be desperate to bag the honours of this series, especially after India have had an overhaul of their leadership.

“I’ve basically been bowling non-stop since the World Test Championship final, nearly 18 months ago. This gives me a good seven or eight weeks completely off bowling so the body can recover, then you start building up again for the summer,” said Pat Cummins to Fox Sports.

“It means you can hopefully bowl for a little bit longer, maintaining pace is a bit easier, makes you less susceptible to injuries,” he added.

Post the World Test Championship Final in 2023, Pat Cummins played the Ashes, ODI World Cup 2023, 3 Test matches versus Pakistan, 2 Test matches against West Indies, a T20I series against New Zealand, 2 Test matches vs New Zealand, the Indian Premier League, the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and then the Major League Cricket for San Francisco Unicorns.

“I’m very sore today after a week of gym. Hamstrings, even ankles, kind of build up over months of bowling, but you can’t really nail it while you’re in the midst of the season,” he said.

Pat Cummins successfully led Australia to 2 ICC titles in 2023

After winning the World Test Championship final against India by a humongous margin of 209 runs, Pat Cummins also marshalled his troops to the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 victory in India.

They defeated the mighty Indian side led by Rohit Sharma on 19th November 2023 in the high-octane finals at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and scripted history.

Australia have won the ICC ODI World Cup on 6 occasions and are the most successful side in this marquee event.

Cummins had taken 4 wickets in the World Test Championship Finals in 2023 and bagged 15 wickets in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
