The buzz around the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) is intensifying with every passing day. After the whole fiasco around the Asia Cup 2023, PCB Chairman Najam Sethi has made another startling demand to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

Najam Sethi has clearly told the ICC boss that Pakistan don’t intend to play their matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad unless it is the finals of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

He has conveyed that he wants Pakistan’s matches to be kept in some other major cities of India.

“Sethi has conveyed to Barclay and Allardice that Pakistan doesn’t want it matches to be scheduled in Ahmedabad unless it is a knock-out game like final. He requested ICC to schedule their games in Chennai, Bengaluru and Kolkata if national team gets clearance from Pakistan government to travel to India for the global event scheduled in October and November,” said a source inside the PCB, according to news agency PTI.

Greg Barclay and ICC General Manager Geoff Alardice paid a visit to Pakistan to discuss a few things on the pipeline. One of the major agenda points discussed was the revenue model of Pakistan in the next few years.

“Sethi pointed out that it was unfair that Pakistan should get a lesser share of the ICC revenues in the new cycle compared to Australia and England. Sethi argued that Australia and England regularly get to play bilateral series with India and their players also take part in the Indian Premier League which means extra revenues for the two boards from the IPL management,” said the source inside the apex body of Pakistan cricket.

Pakistan had played in Ahmedabad in 2005

When Pakistan had toured India in 2005, they had played at the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. Notably, the former name of the Narendra Modi Stadium is the Motera Stadium.

It was an ODI game played on 12th April 2023 and Pakistan had defeated the hosts by 3 wickets. Batting first, India posted 315 runs on the board and Sachin Tendulkar had smashed a century and his knock of 123 runs was packed with 12 fours and 2 sixes.

But the visitors chased down the total it what was an exciting and exemplary game of ODI cricket. Skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq scored 60* runs in 59 balls and was adjudged the player of the match for his impactful knock, that took Pakistan over the line.

Shoaib Malik had also played well in that game and had scored 65 runs.
