Sri Lanka begin their ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign on 3rd June 2024 with a high-octane game versus South Africa. The island nation is placed in Group D and apart from South Africa, they will be locking horns with Nepal, Bangladesh and Netherlands.

Led by talented all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, Sri Lanka would be fancying their chances in the marquee event in West Indies and USA. Wanindu Hasaranga has a wealth of experience in this format and will be marshalling the troops of Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka have won the ICC T20 World Cup once in 2014, when they had beaten India in the finals. They haven’t been able to win the T20 World Cup again.

Openers: Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis

Opening the batting for the 2014 champions will be Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis. Kusal Mendis was the captain of Sri Lanka in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 and will be leading the charge for his team.

The 29-year-old batter has amassed 1554 runs in 64 T20Is and is expected to give flying starts to Sri Lanka.

Top-Order: Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Sadeera Samarawickrama

In the top-order of Sri Lanka will be two right-handed batters in the form of Sadeera Samarawickrama and Dhananjaya de Silva. They will be complemented by a leftie in the form of Charith Asalanka.

Dhananjaya de Silva had mustered a solid knock of 66* runs off 42 deliveries against Afghanistan in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022.

Middle-Order: Dasun Shanaka and Wanindu Hasaranga

Sri Lanka will be bolstered by the presence of two star all-rounders in the form of Dasun Shanaka and Wanindu Hasaranga in the middle-order. The duo will have to contribute with the bat and with the ball.

Both of them have played several T20 leagues across the globe and are accustomed to clutch and high-pressure situations.

Bowlers: Matheesha Pathirana, Dilshan Madhushanka, Nuwan Thushara and Maheesh Theekshana

3 quality pacers in the form of Dilshan Madhushanka, Nuwan Thushara and Matheesha Pathirana will have the onus of delivering the goods with the new ball and in the death. Sri Lanka will also bank on Maheesh Theekshana for his wily spin-bowling.
