Rashid Khan Appointed As New T20I Captain Of Afghanistan Team, Replaces Mohammad Nabi

Date:

Rashid Khan, an all-around player, has been selected to lead Afghanistan in T20 international matches. He succeeds Mohammad Nabi, who resigned as captain after T20 World Cup 2022.

In T20Is, Rashid, 24, has previously captained Afghanistan for three months (from September to November 2019), winning four of seven games. Under his direction, Afghanistan has triumphed in seven of 16 games played across all formats. Rashid Khan has been also appointed as MI Cape Town’s captain in the SA20 league.

Rashid is now the third-highest wicket-taker in T20Is, after Shakib Al Hassan (128) and Tim Southee (134), having played for Afghanistan in 74 T20Is thus far.

He has also played 361 T20 matches for 15 different teams worldwide because of his popularity in franchise cricket. With a staggering 491 wickets, he is the bowler with the second-highest total behind Dwayne Bravo (614). Afghanistan is scheduled to play three T20I against the UAE in February.
