The Indian cricket team, under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, has been awarded a substantial cash reward of ₹58 crore by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) following their win in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

This announcement was made on March 20, 2025, recognizing the team’s outstanding performance throughout the tournament.

    Champions Trophy Victory Overview

India’s journey to victory in the ICC Champions Trophy culminated on March 9, 2025, when they defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the final held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

This victory marked India’s third title in Champions Trophy history, making them the most successful team in the tournament’s history. The team had an unbeaten run, winning all five matches they played during the tournament.

In the group stage, India showcased their dominance with six-wicket victories over both Bangladesh and arch-rivals Pakistan.

They continued their impressive form by defeating New Zealand by 44 runs in their final group match. In the semi-finals, India faced Australia, overcoming them by four wickets to secure a spot in the final.

    Details of the Cash Reward

The ₹58 crore cash reward is intended to honor not just the players but also the coaching and support staff, as well as members of the Men’s Selection Committee.

BCCI President Roger Binny expressed pride in this achievement, stating, “Winning back-to-back ICC titles is special and this reward recognizes Team India’s dedication and excellence on the global stage.”

He emphasized that this financial recognition acknowledges the hard work put in by everyone behind the scenes.

This cash prize is notably three times larger than the official prize money awarded for winning the tournament, underscoring BCCI’s commitment to supporting its players and staff.

    Key Performances in the Final

In the final match against New Zealand, India restricted their opponents to a total of 251 runs thanks to strong performances from spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Kuldeep Yadav, who took two wickets each.

Rohit Sharma played a pivotal role in India’s chase, scoring 76 runs and setting a solid foundation for victory.

Contributions from Shreyas Iyer (48), Axar Patel (29), and KL Rahul (34 not out) ensured that India reached their target with an over to spare.

    Significance of the Victory

This victory is particularly significant as it follows India’s success in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, marking their second ICC title within a span of just eight months.

The triumph highlights India’s strong cricketing ecosystem and sets a new benchmark for excellence in international cricket.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia remarked on this achievement, stating that it reflects years of hard work and strategic execution by players and coaching staff.

He expressed confidence that this success would inspire future generations of cricketers in India.
