Shocking! Sunil Gavaskar Gives Shocking Statement On Indian Cricket Team Players

Date:

The Indian cricket team’s failure to win an International Cricket Council (ICC) trophy since 2013 has raised quite a few eyebrows. Now, former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar weighs in his opinion about it.

Sunil Gavaskar has now given a shocking statement on the Indian cricket team players. He has said that if they fail to win the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, a lot of players might be dropped from the team forever.

He has highlighted the importance of not taking breaks during a World Cup year and that players should be available at all times. Previously, Gavaskar had pointed out Rohit Sharma’s habit of taking frequent breaks and missing matches.

Gavaskar had also lashed out at Virat Kohli in 2020-21 for missing 3 Test matches of the Border Gavaskar Series because of family commitments.

“In a World Cup year any match missed means preparation gets hampered as the balance of the team gets affected. Another failure to win a World Cup will have repercussions that could possibly end a few international careers and that should be a red flag for those talking burnout and missing games for India,” said Sunil Gavaskar in his column for the Mid-Day.

Sunil Gavaskar then compared the Indian cricket team to a corporate set-up and asked the question of whether people get so many leaves in an office.

“I honestly feel that the BCCI needs to look into this concept of rest. All the Grade A cricketers have received very good contracts. They receive payment for every match.

Tell me if there is any company whose CEO, or MDs get so much time off? I feel that if Indian cricket is to become more professional, a line needs to be drawn. If you want to be rested, you need to reduce your guarantees.

Then you take rest, because you don’t want to play. But how can anyone say that I don’t want to play for the Indian team. Which is why I do not agree to the concept,” wrote the 1983 World Cup winner.

Sunil Gavaskar is a very notable commentator and cricket pundit and is known for making bold statements.

The ICC ODI World Cup 2023 will be taking place in India in October-November

The Indian cricket team would be hoping to lift their 3rd World Cup title and the 2nd one at home when they host the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. The World Cup is slated to take place in October and November in India.

England are the defending champions of the World Cup.
