Shubman Gill has already carved a niche of his own in international cricket. The year 2023 has Shubman Gill written all over it. The young 23-year-old stylish and flamboyant batter is in red hot form and is churning out runs for fun.
He recently smashed a double century against New Zealand in the ODI format and then scored an impressive century in the T20I format against the same team. His knock of 126* in the 3rd T20I versus New Zealand was the highest score by an Indian in this format.
Now, Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma has opined about Shubman Gill’s stellar performances. He said that Gill has the potential to reach the “league of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma”.
“I believe Gill has the makings to reach the league of Virat and Rohit. It is great to see that the youngster has overtaken two greats of the game in that list. This shows that he has the hunger to score big.
Virat and Rohit have won so many games for India and as a team, you want new players to step up too,” said Rajkumar Sharma in an interview with India News
Notably, Rajkumar Sharma has been the childhood coach of Virat Kohli. He has guided and mentored him and still extends his words of advice and wisdom to the talismanic 34-year-old cricketer, who is regarded as one of the greatest cricketers of all time.
Shubman Gill has become the number 6 ODI batter in the world on the back of some exceptional performances in this format.
He is the frontrunner to partner Rohit Sharma in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, which will be taking place in India.
He is also expected to play in the middle order of the Indian Test team which will be playing a 4-match Test series against Australia.
The likes of Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer have been ruled out of the series because of their injuries.
The opening slot will in all probability be taken by Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul.
