Date:

In his short cricketing career so far, Shubman Gill has proven his mettle and his class. A batter of the highest order, the young and prodigious Shubman Gill is in imperious form. He has a 100 in all the 3 formats of international cricket and is stamping his authority in the Indian Premier League (IPL) too.

Initially being picked by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during IPL 2018, Gill was in the shadows of other superstars in his initial couple of years. But after he was promoted up the order, he grabbed onto the opportunity with both hands.

Several present cricketing stars, former cricketers and acclaimed cricket pundits have lavished praise on the 23-year-old cricketer. Virat Kohli has time and again publicly acknowledged the prodigious star and has posted a few Instagram stories for him too.

“There’s potential and then there’s gill. Go on and lead the next generation. God bless you (with a star emoji),” read one of Virat Kohli’s Instagram story for Shubman Gill.

In this article, we take a look at a few records made by Shubman Gill in his cricketing career so far:

Top-scorer of KKR in IPL 2020 and IPL 2021

Kolkata Knight Riders enjoyed the batting supremacy of Shubman Gill for a few years before doing the epic blunder of letting the batter go before the IPL 2022 mega-auctions. Shubman Gill mustered 440 and 478 runs for KKR in IPL 2020 and IPL 2021 respectively and was their highest run-scorer in those editions.

Alongside Venkatesh Iyer in the second-half of IPL 2021, Shubman Gill formed a potent force at the top for the 2-time champions.

Player of the tournament in the ICC U-19 World Cup 2018

Shubman Gill was first spotted in the limelight when he bagged the player of the tournament award in the ICC U-19 World Cup in 2018. He had also smashed a match-winning hundred versus Pakistan in the high-voltage finals of that tournament.

Gill had a stupendous average of 124 in the tournament and was a shining star for the Indian team, which played under the leadership of Prithvi Shaw.

Most runs in first 20 ODI innings by an Indian batter

Shubman Gill surpassed fellow teammate Virat Kohli’s record of 847 runs in the first 20 innings for India in the One-Day format. After his century in the 3rd ODI between India and Sri Lanka on 15th century, Shubman Gill achieved this record.

Highest individual T20I score by an Indian batter

Shubman Gill has another stunning record to his name in international cricket. The 23-year-old flamboyant batter has the highest individual T20I score by an Indian batter. His knock of 126* runs in just 99 balls came against New Zealand in February 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
