In a low-scoring match at the Buffalo Park, East London, South Africa defeated India in the Women’s T20 Tri-Series final by 5 wickets. The visitors chose to bat first, but they had a rough start, losing both of their openers in the first seven overs and scoring just 21 runs.
The Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s innings gave the innings some momentum, but when she realized she was running out of balls, she got a touch overconfident and lost her wicket.
In the end, India managed to post 109/4 on an absolute spinner’s paradise thanks to Harleen Deol’s resilient innings of 46 from 56 deliveries and Deepti Sharma’s unbeaten 14-ball 16, the only Indian hitter to score at a strike rate of above 100. For the home team, Nonkululeko Mlaba, Ayabonga Khaka, and Sune Luus took wickets.
South Africa did not get off to the best of starts, needing 110 to win. There had just been 65 runs on board when 5 wickets were down. Later, Tryon, the innings’ anchor, scored 57* off 32 deliveries to get South Africa to the finish line with two overs remaining.
Sneh Rana took two wickets for India, while Deepti Sharma, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, and Renuka Thakur Singh each took one. South Africa has won the Women’s T20I Tri-Series with this victory.
