T20 World Cup 2024 Venue Change: ICC Likely To Shift T20 World Cup 2024 To England From USA And West Indies

Date:

The upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, which was initially supposed to be co-hosted by the USA and the West Indies, may change venues due to a lack of preparedness issues.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to reconsider their choices because the country’s infrastructure is now not considered sufficient to host such a prestigious tournament successfully.

With only a year until the competition, the USA has the difficult task of achieving the infrastructure requirements imposed by the ICC in order to host the event. Right now, it seems like a difficult task.

Considering that England, Ireland, and Scotland have already been given the hosting rights for the 2030 edition, as confirmed by the ICC in November 2021, reports suggest that the ICC may approach England to possibly host the T20 World Cup.

The potential change in venue for the T20 World Cup in 2024 shows the difficulties in organising a global cricket competition and emphasises the need of infrastructural readiness in hosting such significant sporting events.

The ICC’s top objective is to make sure the competition is hosted at a venue that is appropriate and equipped with everything needed to make it memorable for both players and spectators.

England Considered as Replacement T20 World Cup 2024 Host

There are reports indicating that England is being considered as a potential replacement host for the T20 World Cup 2024, swapping with the originally planned co-hosts, the West Indies and the USA.

It is more possible for England to host the event because many regions of the world normally stop playing cricket in June, which is one of the grounds for this consideration.

The USA would have more time to address the infrastructure and logistical requirements necessary to effectively organise the tournament if England, Ireland, and Scotland were to host the T20 World Cup in 2024.

The ICC’s objective of promoting cricket in all parts of the world would be in line with this choice, which would also guarantee that the USA is completely prepared to host the event.

“There is a situation at hand. The current infrastructure situation in the USA is not very encouraging and it is likely that the ICC could well swap the hosts for 2024 and 2030 editions of the event. It will also allow USA Cricket to get the infrastructure in order before 2030 and allow them to set the house in order too. Right now, it will be a rushed process to get the venues ready. England was already allotted the 2030 World Cup and they, unlike other nations, can host an event in June-July,” as per the News18 report.

USA’s Limited Cricket Infrastructure: Two Stadiums with ODI Status

Significantly, the USA currently possesses only two stadiums that meet international standards and hold the prestigious One-Day International (ODI) status.

These stadiums are Central Broward Regional Park in Lauderhill, Florida, and Moosa Stadium in Pearland, Texas. However, it is worth noting that Moosa Stadium has exclusively hosted 12 ODIs featuring associate nations.

In contrast, Central Broward Regional Park has had the opportunity to host 14 T20I involving prominent cricketing nations such as India, West Indies, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka.

This demonstrates the capability of the stadium to successfully accommodate matches of a high caliber and attract top teams from around the world.
