ICC T20 World Cup 2024: 3 Reasons Why South Africa Can Become Champions

Date:

As India look to end their global trophy drought, all eyes will be on the epic clash between India and South Africa at the Kensington Oval in Barbados. India, who had last won an ICC T20 World Cup title in 2007 will be crossing swords with South Africa, who are gunning for their maiden ICC World Cup title.

Both India and South Africa have been clinical and comprehensive in this tournament so far. Both are unbeaten so far and would be looking to extend their winning run and crossing the final hurdle of this tournament.

South Africa steamrolled past Afghanistan in the semi-finals and sent ripples of shock across the entire cricketing fraternity.

In this article, we take a look at 3 reasons why South Africa can become champions of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024:

1. Hunger Factor

South Africa have never won any ICC title and have the tag of “perennial chokers”. They would be looking to shrug off the cloak of mediocrity they encounter in the knockout stages of ICC events and would be looking to stamp their authority in this final against the heavyweights India.

Be it the 1992 semi-final debacle where rain played spoilsport in the fag end of the match or the 2015 semi-final heartbreak at the hands of New Zealand, the Proteas have been severely unlucky in this competition.

2. Consistent right throughout the tournament

Aiden Markram and his men have displayed class and mettle right throughout this tournament in USA and West Indies. They have defeated all their opposition so far and would be sparkling with rhythm and rhyme.

The dominant victory over Afghanistan would act as a huge confidence-booster for South Africa and they would be keen on causing a massive heartbreak for the Indian fans.

3. Good performances from their players

South Africa’s players are in form and are consistently delivering the goods with the bat and with the ball. Anrich Nortje has been the pick of the bowlers for South Africa and has bagged 13 wickets so far.

Kagiso Rabada too has been breathing fire with the white-cherry and has taken 12 wickets. On the other hand, Quinton De Kock and David Miller have performed well for the Proteas with the bat, scoring 204 and 148 runs respectively in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
