    India's last victory over Australia

India’s last victory over Australia in an ICC knockout match dates back to the 2011 ODI World Cup quarter-final.

This historic win took place on March 24, 2011, at the Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad, India. The match was a thrilling encounter that showcased India’s resilience and determination under pressure.

    The 2011 World Cup Quarter-Final

In this quarter-final match, Australia won the toss and chose to bat first. Ricky Ponting anchored their innings with a defiant 118, helping Australia set a competitive total of 260/6.

India’s bowlers, led by Yuvraj Singh (2/44) and R Ashwin (2/52), restricted Australia’s late surge, setting up a challenging chase for the Indian team.

The Indian innings began shakily with Virender Sehwag falling early, but Sachin Tendulkar (53) and Gautam Gambhir (50) steadied the ship.

Tendulkar’s elegance and Gambhir’s resolve took India to 94 before Shaun Tait’s pace shattered Tendulkar’s stumps.

Gambhir then forged crucial partnerships with Virat Kohli (24) and Yuvraj Singh, whose fearless shots under pressure turned the tide.

With MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina providing late fireworks, Yuvraj sealed the win with a boundary, securing a five-wicket victory for India.

    IND vs AUS Recent Encounters

Since that memorable win, India has struggled against Australia in ICC knockout matches. They lost to Australia in the 2015 World Cup semi-final by 95 runs, the 2023 ODI World Cup final by six wickets, and the 2023 World Test Championship final by 209 runs.

    IND vs AUS Upcoming Challenge

As India prepares to face Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semi-final, they have a golden opportunity to end their ICC knockout jinx against the Aussies.

With their recent form and a strong team lineup, India will be looking to replicate their 2011 success and advance to the final.
