Prior to the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL), which will take place in March–April 2023, Gujarat Giants has named great Indian batter and former captain Mithali Raj as the team’s mentor and advisor.
“Over the years, Mithali’s trailblazing achievements and contributions to Indian cricket have not only earned her numerous awards and accolades but have also played a key role in bringing women’s cricket into the limelight, both on national and international platforms,” a statement from Adani Sportsline, the owners of the Ahmedabad franchise, read.
Mithali will also promote women’s cricket and help in the growth of the game in Gujarat.
“As a mentor and advisor, Mithali will also promote women’s cricket and help develop the sport at the grassroots level in Gujarat,” the statement added.
Mithali Raj made history when she scored a century in her ODI debut. She has 17 half-centuries in her T20Is and is the leading run-scorer in women’s ODIs. The seasoned cricketer led India to a second-place finish at the 2017 Women’s ODI Cricket World Cup. She also competed for India in the team that advanced to the semi-finals of the West Indies 2018 ICC Women’s World T20.
