The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced an all-female umpiring panel for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. The battle for Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 is all set to take place in the United Arab Emirates from October 3 to 20.
This significant decision marks a historic milestone in cricket, reflecting the ICC’s ongoing commitment to promoting women in leadership roles within the sport.
All female umpire for T20 World Cup 2024
The all-female panel will consist of ten umpires and three match referees, showcasing the ICC’s dedication to empowering women in cricket.
This initiative aligns with global efforts to increase female representation in sports officiating, providing a platform for talented female umpires to showcase their skills on an international stage.
The panel will officiate all matches during the tournament, which features ten teams competing across 23 matches at two venues: Dubai International Stadium and Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
Umpires: Lauren Agenbag, Kim Cotton, Sarah Dambanevana, Anna Harris, Nimali Perera, Claire Polosak, Vrinda Rathi, Sue Redfern, Eloise Sheridan, Jacquiline Williams.
Match Referees: Shandré Fritz, GS Lakshmi, Michell Pereira.
Promoting Gender Equality
The decision to appoint an all-female umpiring team is a significant step towards achieving gender equality in cricket.
The ICC has been actively working to enhance women’s participation in the sport, not only as players but also in coaching and officiating roles.
This move is expected to inspire a new generation of female cricketers and officials, encouraging them to pursue careers in cricket beyond playing.
