WPL 2023: Alyssa Healy To Lead UP Warriorz In Women’s Premier League

One of the world’s deadliest openers and an experienced Australian player Alyssa Healy was named UP Warriorz’s captain on Wednesday for the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL). Significantly, at the WPL 2023 auction in Mumbai, UP Warriorz acquired Healy for Rs 70 lakh..

A total of six foreign players, including the Australian Healy, were acquired by the UP Warriorz, one of the five teams competing in the 2023 WPL, during the WPL 2023 Player Auctions held in Mumbai on February 13.

Healy, one of the most recognisable figures in the game, is a highly skilled and seasoned competitor who has played for Australia in 139 T20 Internationals and scored approximately 2,500 runs with one century and 14 fifties. With 110 dismissals in T20Is, she is also regarded as one of the top wicket-keeper batters in the game. 

Alyssa Healy is known for her fireworks, her 61-ball unbeaten 148 against Sri Lanka is proof of that. In her remarkable career, the 32-year-old has also won the Women’s ODI World thrice. Her presence and leadership will surely benefit the UP Warriorz in WPL 2023.

WPL 2023 from March 4

Mumbai will host the Women’s Premier League from March 4 to March 26 of 2023. The Brabourne Stadium and DY Patil Stadium will host the 22 matches that make up the premier competition. On March 5 at the DY Patil Stadium, the UP Warriorz will play their first season opener against the Gujarat Giants.
