The 2nd edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) is all set to kickstart from 23rd February 2024 and promises to live up to its expectations. Harmanpreet Kaur had led Mumbai Indians to the title in the 1st edition of the tournament, last year, in Mumbai.
As the 2nd edition of this glittering tournament approaches, the captain of India across all 3 formats and the Mumbai Indians captain in WPL, stressed on the factor that makes a good team in the WPL.
She focussed on adaptability as one of the key building blocks of a good team. Notably, the 2nd edition of the WPL will be played in Bengaluru and Delhi as opposed to the 1st edition, when it took place in Mumbai.
“The conditions in Bengaluru will be different than Mumbai. I don’t have much experience of playing in Delhi, so I don’t have any idea how the wickets will fare in Delhi. If we can just quickly adapt to these things, this will show how good we are as a team,” said Harmanpreet Kaur in an interview with PTI TV.
She also highlighted that there is ‘competition’ in the team for the places in the starting XI and also said that Mumbai Indians will make the XI based on the playing conditions.
“It is important for any team to have as many good players in the team as possible because then you can pick the best eleven. There is also competition for places among players. We will make our playing eleven according to conditions,” she said.
Harmanpreet Kaur also remarked that Mumbai Indians were not dependent on a few players last season and that it was a complete team performance that powered them to lift the inaugural WPL title.
“Our players have done really well in the last season. It was a complete team performance; we were not dependent on one or two players. This year our goal will be the same and try to add some good things and play according to situations,” Kaur remarked.
