The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially announced that the World Test Championship, WTC Final will be held at Lord’s Cricket Ground in London from June 11 to June 15, 2025.

June 16 has been kept as the reserve day if required. ICC CEO Geoff Allardice said, “The ICC World Test Championship Final has quickly become one of the most anticipated events in the cricketing calendar and we are pleased to announce the dates for the 2025 edition.”

This final marks the culmination of the 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship, which commenced in June 2023 and features nine participating teams competing in a series of Test matches to determine the top two teams that will vie for the prestigious title.

    WTC Tournament Overview

The 2023-2025 ICC World Test Championship is the third edition of this prestigious tournament, featuring a total of 70 matches across 27 series.

Each team plays six series—three at home and three away—against selected opponents, with the format designed to enhance the competitiveness and significance of Test cricket.

    WTC Final Points System

The points system remains consistent with previous editions, awarding:

    • 12 points for a win
    • 6 points for a tie
    • 4 points for a draw
    • 0 points for a loss

Teams are ranked based on the percentage of points won out of total points contested, emphasizing the importance of consistency throughout the tournament.

How to reach the WTC Final?

The top two teams in the points table after the league stage will qualify for the final at Lord’s.

India has reached the finals of the World Test Championship on two occasions, but unfortunately, they were unable to secure victory, losing to New Zealand in the inaugural match and facing defeat against Australia last year.

Currently, India is at the top of the WTC points table. While, India is set to face Australia in an away series consisting of five matches later this year, which will be crucial in the race for the WTC Final.

Other teams still in contention for a spot in the one-off decider next year include New Zealand (third), England (fourth), Sri Lanka (fifth), South Africa (sixth), and Bangladesh (seventh).
