The long-standing debate of whether Ravichandran Ashwin should be a part of India’s white-ball squad has always been persistent. Ashwin was a part of the Indian squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 despite not being in contention all throughout the year.
Former Indian all-rounder and the player of the tournament in the ICC ODI World Cup 2011, Yuvraj Singh, has now given his verdict on Ashwin’s place in the white-ball squads of India.
Speaking to Times of India in Kolkata, Yuvraj Singh was given an explosive statement that is doing the rounds on the internet.
“Ashwin is a great bowler but I don’t think he deserves a place in ODIs and T20s. He is very good with the ball, but what does he bring with the bat? Or as a fielder? In the Test team, yes, he should be there. But in white-ball cricket, I don’t think he deserves a place,” said Yuvraj Singh to Times of India.
Yuvraj Singh also shed light on the Mumbai Indians captaincy debate
After Mumbai Indians (MI) announced Hardik Pandya as the captain, replacing Rohit Sharma, there was a huge uproar on social media. This did not sit down well with the fans and people were mercilessly trolling Mumbai Indians and Rohit Sharma.
Yuvraj Singh has now finally broken the ice on this fiery captaincy topic. He spoke about the possible clashes in terms of ego between Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya in Mumbai Indians.
“When players play together these things happen. If they have an issue they should definitely sit and talk about it. Rohit has always been very instrumental in getting the best out of Hardik whenever he has played for Mumbai Indians, especially in terms of his bowling to manage his workload,” said Yuvraj Singh.
India are 1-0 up and ahead in the T20I series
In the ongoing 3-match T20I series between India and Afghanistan, India are presently 1-0 up. They defeated the Afghans by 6 wickets in Mohali and would be looking to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series on 14th January 2024.
Virat Kohli will be returning to the scheme of things in this format after missing out on cricketing action in T20Is for 14 months. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had played in the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 but didn’t play in any T20I series, post that.
