Battlegrounds Mobile India or BGMI was banned in India on 28 July 2022. The highly-acclaimed battle-royale title was released in India after the ban of PUBG Mobile in the country. The game was specifically released for the Indian audience after making slight modifications to the gameplay of PUBG Mobile.
These modifications include replacing the word ‘kills’ to ‘finishes’ and changing the colour of the blood splatter from red to green. The developers, Krafton, also asserted that they have adhered to all the standards set by the Indian government.
However, BGMI met the same fate as PUBG Mobile. It was banned by the Indian government, citing Section 69A of the IT Act. This section allows the government of India to deny public access to any such app that breaches the security of the nation. The government claimed that BGMI was leaking information to China and thus, the game was banned. Whether the game will return to the Indian market is still a mystery.
