During the 2009 to 2012 phase, Lionel Messi was on God’s level. He won four consecutive Ballon d’Or awards, and Messi stamped his authority in the Football world. Messi made some incredible record in that phase and was unstoppable. Not only on a personal level but with FC Barcelona also Messi achieved many crazy feats like Sextuple, and consecutive La Liga wins, but one of his most outrageous records came in 2012 when he scored a monumental 91 goals in the 2011-12 season.
Messi’s 91 goals in 2012 were an incredible feat, and he will most likely hold the record for a long time. Messi appeared in 69 games for his club and nation in 2012. In other words, he averaged 1.32 goals per game. Every 68 minutes, a goal is scored. Unbelievable. Germany’s Gerd Müller of Bayern Munich established the previous record in 1972, with 85 goals. To score 91 goals in a calendar year, let alone shatter the 91-goal mark, will take many years for any footballer.
